It is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be directly observed. By examining your retina, we can detect not only eye conditions but also early signs of other systemic diseases such as stroke, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. 

At New Vision Opticians, we are proud to offer OPTOMAP as a pre-screening service, making us one of just over 100 practices in the UK with this advanced technology. OPTOMAP allows our Optometrists to visualize up to 5 times more of your retina compared to standard technology, ensuring a thorough assessment of your eye health. 

As part of our commitment to your eye care, our Optometrists recommend including an Optomap image as part of your routine eye examination or sight test. This non-invasive procedure is fast, painless, and comfortable. There is no contact with your eye, and typically, dilation drops are not required. The image capture takes less than a half second, and you simply look into the device one eye at a time, similar to looking through a keyhole. A comfortable flash of light indicates that the image of your retina has been successfully captured.
